QUESTION:

What do the scholars of the Din and muftis of the Sacred Law state regarding the following issue, can one use mouthwash that contains alcohol?

Questioner: Kashif from London, UK

ANSWER:

بسم اللہ الرحمن الرحیم
الجواب بعون الملک الوھاب اللھم ھدایۃ الحق والصواب

According to my understanding mouthwash is generally used to make your breath smell fresher and also for its medicinal qualities to fight diseases (such as gum disease, plaque etc). If you are using mouthwash that contains alcohol for its medicinal use to fight some illness then it would be allowed to use it in this circumstance.

However, if you are using it to make your breath smell nicer then it will not be allowed to use such mouthwashes.
